Mon 28th Feb

All 61 sheep minus the cows were all present and correct and no issues spotted since Chris's check the day before. We really could do with a longer dry spell because it's still so muddy around the troughs.

The sheep were in two distinct groups today. 34 of them were spread out across the dip in the middle of the eastern section and the rest were scattered across the short grass area at the top of the field . All 61 accounted for and all grazing well and looking fine .,

The cattle were in the south west corner close by the gate most of them lying down and those few that weren’t were standing gazing rather vacantly into space . They all look fine

The remaining sheep were spread out across the top part of the field . All 61 accounted for and looking well. No one limping and all grazing well .

The cattle were initially all lying down half way up the south facing slope also close to the median fence line . Later they all got up and moved up the field . None of them limping and all looking fine .

The trough is fine and as has been reported previously is now surrounded by something of a quagmire .

Five roe deer seen in the eastern section grazing across the north facing slope .

Mon 21st Feb

Very windy across the field today but not debris or damage seen. All 61 sheep counted and moving well chasing me across the field for food. I couldn't spot the bloody nose sheep so assume it's healing well. The cattle were resting around 7.30am but by 8.45am were up and moving around without issues. It is very wet and muddy around the water trough and the main gate to the south of the field.

Sat 19 Feb

All 61x and 9x accounted for. I got them all up on their feet and called them over and didn't see any limpers. I couldn't spot #114, so I think its growth has stopped bleeding.

Trough fine. No concerns.

Fri 18th Feb

A tad windy today,  the livestock sensibly sheltered near the central hedge while humans were panicking everywhere. I couldn’t see any issues, bloody nose sheep will hopefully get some dry weather to heal. The central hedge next to the gate at the southern end of the field has come down partly but this isn’t affecting access.

61 sheep counted. The sheep with the growth knocked its nose one looked like fresh blood when I was on site  will dry or wash off
Grazing team informed and should scab over. Monitor incase does not heal

This week's warden checks

Member of the public reported mass amounts of litter near western bench but council came in and cleared it up which is good to know, I've spotted a few items of plastic in the fields.
A handful of skylarks singing which lightened the dreary weather
Work party started burning the hedge arisings on the large field. We will be back next week.
I hope to put a new brace plate on the southern gate next week

Stay safe in the wind everyone! Gales are meant to last all weekend with Friday being especially bad, so please take precautions and do not put yourself at risk.

Tuesday 8th grazing team

The grazing team have done a check through all the animals. Cow 105 has been treated. One of the steers has a slight limp on their hind leg but this will be monitored.
The lamb with the growth on the ear has burst but this is nothing of concern and will be monitored.

Thanks,
Bea

Tuesday February 8th

Weather today was very mild . The sheep were widely scattered today sone at the far northern end of the field,  some on the north facing slope in the south with others across the centre of the field and down by the gate to the main road . They all looked fine . I didn’t see anyone limping and they all appeared to be grazing happily.

The cows were all in the north of the field on the short grass there . All looking fine apart from 105 who was lying down some way off in the long grass. When he got to his feet his near fore continues to look very aore. He doesn’t want to put any weight on it and quite soon lay down again . I gather bea has told the grazing team who will check him out sone time this week . Otherwise all good

Friday 4th Feb

The sheep were quite frisky today they charged at me as I was walking down the hill! No health issues spotted but lots of dirty behinds, maybe lack of rain? Noticed that new group weren’t integrated today congregated on the west side of the east field. No issues spotted with the cattle situated on the northernmost part of the field. There’s a hole under the fence at the northeastern side again, I’ll try to fill it at the weekend

Tuesday, February 1, 2022

Tuesday February 1st

61 sheep accounted for . All fine and no limpers in evidence today. The 9 cattle likewise fine apart from 105 who appears to have a sore near side fore . This eased after he had been standing and walking for a while but still evident so perhaps slightly more than just a leg made stiff by lying down . otherwise all good . The trough is ok .
