Thursday September 29th
All good in Barton meadows today . The sheep were in the same place as was reported yesterday at the northern end of the field in the long grass area . Initially split into two loose groups one of 12 and one of 18 , one in the far north west corner and the other down towards the gate and crush at the top of the median fence line. They did though coalesce into one larger group and one much smaller one later . All grazing happily and moving ok . I got them to move about a bit to see whether the limps reported yesterday had persisted and it looks as though they have got better at least for the time being . Saw five roe deer two of them quite close which looked really great in the afternoon sun .

Another three in the north west corner by the crush there and the remaining nine in the north east of the field . All of these grazing fine , no limps evident . Thursday September 15th
A rather drab morning had turned into a lovely afternoon by the time I visited Barton today . Rather later than scheduled but the better for it . The sheep were in two groups . One of 16 in the north east corner of the long grass area and the other group of 14 in the north west corner . Most of them lying down although when I got them to their feet I saw no signs of anyone limping . They all looked fine and those standing were happily grazing . The group of 14 later started to move down the median fence line into the short grass area and towards the trough . The latter is fine and the water supply is working ok. Saw two roe deer that got up just in front of me from the median fence area and ran across the short grass area to cover in the long grass . They looked very beautiful in the afternoon sun

Tuesday September 13th
The sheep were in two widely separated groups. One of 22 in the short grass part of the field spread out close to the median fence line on the south facing slope . They again came across to check me out as soon as they saw me . All seem fine . No evident limps and didn’t see any excessive flies .
The other eight were in the top of the long grass area up towards the north east corner . All grazing and looking fine . No limps
The trough is fine and the water supply working properly . I see the ground that had been badly poached around the trough has been covered with hard core which will make this part of the field much easier for stock and lookers alike .
Saw no less than six roe deer running across the short grass area and into cover in the long grass at the top of the field

Monday 12th - Sheep Treatment
Sunday, September 11, 2022
Sun 11 Sep
All 30x accounted for. 2x sheep of concern, which I called in to Rachel. Both sheep are lively, grazing and keeping in with the flock.
#21 (possibly #22) is agitating around a greasy patch in the centre of its back, where flies are clustering. This is a sign of probable fly strike.
The limper was plain to spot today and there are flies clustering around the top of its lame leg (front left). Rachel advises this could be because it has foot rot and the odour transfers to the top of its leg when it folds its leg under it when resting and this transferred odour is what attracts the flies.
I couldn't get close to read the ear tag of the limper, but it's easy to spot and is pictured below.

Sat 10 Sep
All 30x sheep accounted for. They were spread out in the high vegetation and not moving much, but seemed fine. I couldn't spot the limper, but will look again tomorrow. No concerns.
#5 had a cluster of flies in the centre of its back - I think just on the surface of the fleece and I couldn't see a wound beneath. I will check again tomorrow and will call it in if concerned.
Walking back, I found this orb weaver on my sleeve, making a dent on the wasp population.

Thursday 8th September
All 30 sheep counted in Barton today. Initially they were grazing along the median fence line and up the south facing slope before coming across to see what I had brought them . All moving fine apart from the one already reported who has a limp which remains much the same as when I last saw this animal on Tuesday perhaps slightly better . Otherwise all are fine . Trough ok and water supply functioning properly

Sat 03 Sep
All 30x sheep accounted for. All grouped nicely at the southern end of the field.
#27 laid down frequently. It has bare patches on its rear flanks, so may have had fly strike in the past. Will monitor.
#12 and #13 incredibly friendly and seem to like being tickled behind the ears!
All look good. No concerns.
On Friday, there was a nice little common lizard on an ant hill just about here:
