Tuesday February 28th

The cattle were at the bottom of the dip in the railway field . All 12 of them lying down close together and right next to the median fence line . None of them in any way inclined to get up preferring to stay lying down to keep out of the chill northerly wind . All of them looking fine though , alert and paying attention . Their trough is ok and the water supply is functioning properly .

Nine roe deer seen initially spread out across the south facing slope of the large field although as ever they dashed hither and yon at the sight of me and doubtless other people and ended up going to cover in the long grass area. No sign of the solo animal .

Sat 25 Feb

All 12x cows counted. Grazing, moving slowly, grouped nicely. No concerns.

9x roe in the eastern enclosure - 8x doe, 1x buck. The 10th roe (a displaced buck) was milling round the arable field to the south, looking bored.

Thursday February 23rd

All 12 cattle lying down at the top of the south facing slope of the railway field , close to the median fence line .  Some  of them got up when it approached including 104 who has a slight limp . At first I thought this nothing more than stiffness from lying down too long but I think it’s probably a little more than that . Nothing dramatic but worth keeping an eye on on. It is the near fore which seems to be sore. . The rest seemed fine . All of them alert and engaged whether standing or lying . Their trough is ok and the water supply functioning ok. Ten roe deer seen  today. Nine in the big field and one solo animal in the railway field .

Tuesday February 21st

The cattle were all grouped  around the trough when I arrived . A couple lying down and the rest just standing gazing into space. All 12 looking fine . As soon as I moved out of the field they dispersed across the field and started grazing . Trough Is fine and water supply functioning properly . Two roe deer seen ( and for interest no less than five in the field the other side of the main road )

Monday 20th Feb

All moving well, trough and water supply is fine. Good point about the electric fence Chris I can't remember if I saw it or not on Friday!

Sun 19 Feb

All 12x cattle counted and appeared fine, grazing normally. No concerns.

Trough working normally. I found a mallet with a red & black handle, which I left by the trough.

When was the electric fence removed? By us, hopefully....?

Friday 17th Feb

All looked fine grazing in the north west corner of the field near the railway line. Only exception was no..173 was standing against the fence trying to get out, couldn't see any obvious issues at all though.

Thursday February 16th

The 12 cows were once again in the south east corner of the railway field . They were all clustered close to the gate looking rather depressed . No one grazing , instead they were all just standing chewing the cud and clearly hoping that the weather would brighten up . They all seemed fine though just very piano . Their trough is fine and the water supply is functioning ok. The electric fence is pulsing away happily. One sole roe deer seen only briefly as it quickly disappeared into the Misty drizzle.

Wednesday 15th February

The trough looked fine. The cows were all standing further down the field by the railway line, happily grazing.

Tuesday, February 14, 2023

Tuesday February 14th

The 12 cows were all close up to the trough when I arrived.  ten of them standing doing nothing apart from looking at me hopefully as if I was expected to bring them something to liven up what was obviously turning out to be a rather dull afternoon , despite the very pleasant sunny weather . The other two were lying down just gazing into space . All of them looking fine and no signs of any more of the unusual behaviour reported yesterday . When they were sure that I wasn’t going to provide any entertainment they all mooched off across the field and started to graze . Their trough is fine and the water supply is functioning properly . The trough in the large field is also ok and the supply working fine . Apologies I didn’t check the electric fence . Eight roe deer seen in the large field ( plus another two in the field on the other side of the main road )

Call out to cow moving oddly near trough

One of the cattle was reported as moving oddly, waving its body near the cattle trough and not walking away when encouraged. Also on its own away from the others. This could be a sign of a problem, or an animal enjoying a good scratch.

All 12 near the southern fence when I arrived. Mostly lying down,  a couple standing, all cudding. Three obvious patches of scratching near the trough, via hair caught on the barb.

No problems or anything unusual observed during my 15min check.

007 is missing her left ear tag.

Friday 3rd Feb

I went to add some electric fence signs to the line and checked in on the cow with no tags, it now looks to have a significant limp on its back right leg, but was keeping with the group a bit more.

2nd February

Electric fence has been put up to concentrate
grazing on top half of field. Best to approach cows from housing estate side. Salt lick placed by water trough for added nutrient.
All 12 cows seemed happy. One (didn't seem to have tag) was remote from others. Also this observed yesterday too.
