Saturday 31st August 2024

Checked on the lambs this afternoon, all 51 counted. The lambs were scattered over the field in small groups, but all had returned to one herd by the time I left, apart from four that were enjoying the tasty nibbles by the fence too much. Noticed three messy behinds, no worse than last Saturday and no flies. All seem healthy and happy. Trough is still full and valve is working. Spotted five roe deer and a buzzard.

Wednesday 28th August

The sheep were spread over the smaller field. Couldn't see them in the long grass so got them all up and moving. Eventually counted 51 a few times, the small lamb seems to be keeping up with the others. No problems seen.

Monday 26th August

I couldn't for the life of me get the code right to the gate (transposed some of the numbers and didn't have the laminated sheet on me to check) and there was a lady sat watching me, so I didn't want to scale the fence, but all the sheep we up against the fence anyway, so I walked around and checked on them that way. Counted multiple times, results varied from 48 - 55 because kept moving, but it meant I got a good look at them all on the move and none seemed to be limping. There was one fella who was off a way away bleating, but then the family of deer popped up and ran off, so I guess he was just over there bothering them as he came back and joined the rest of the flock once they'd moved on.

Apologies for being late to post this, life is busy.

Sun 25 Aug

All 51x sheep counted by Emily and I.

1x was separated from the rest - it's the smallest one, in less good condition and you can see ribs through its fleece. It rejoined the flock when approached. It seems ok.

3x sheep have scour, with very messy back ends. No flies seen on any of them.

Trough fine.

Saturday 24th August 2024

Went up this afternoon to check on the lambs. They were all together in the dip and I counted all 51, after several attempts as most of the lambs were lying down and difficult to see. I noticed two with rather dirty backsides, otherwise all seemed quite happy and allowed me to come quite close. Water trough is working and full to the brim. Saw eight roe deer and a buzzard.

Friday 2nd August 2024 Staff Check

Another hot and sunny day, but with lots of butterflies around, saw quite a few Common Blues.

The footpaths have all had a haircut, with anything overhanging now gone. All of the kissing gates are cleared of vegetation too.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.
