Thursday 31st October

Lambs all looking okay today :)

Need to fill in a hole by one of the benches and put some aggregate down by the kissing gate as it is quite muddy!

Thank you all for your support checking the site and livestock,

Sam

Unfortunately I wasn't able to check on the sheep today as by the time I finished wprk it was too dark (thanks, clocks...)

I will try to get to see them on Friday.

Sun 27 Oct

Emily and I (eventually) counted all 51x sheep, which were spread right across the enclosure.

All seemed fine. Tough, fences and gates fine.

No concerns.

Saturday 26th October 2024

Checked the lambs this afternoon and enjoyed the sunshine. All 51 counted, a few messy behinds but no flies seen. Had 12 come over straight away for sheep nuts, followed a bit later by another 4. Unfortunately, only a small handful left, so some lambs went without a treat. Trough ok. Spotted 1 roe deer. I will send a message to Sam re the sheep nuts.

Wednesday 23rd October

Mild damp day. 51 counted, spread across the field, mostly laying down.

They all came over to the bucket, several messy ends but not causing any problems I can see.

Monday 21st

I could only count 50 sheep, but my husband counted 51. I couldn’t see the very little sheep, maybe he’s had a growth spurt?

A big bulk of them came running when they saw the bucket and non of them ate out of my hand but a few of them touched my hand when I held out some cobnuts. Only a couple of handfuls left I reckon.

There’s a carcass in the field that I thought was the 51st sheep I couldn’t spot, but Chris’s post from yesterday said it was a deer.

I took a photo (from far away) in case that helps, but I will buffer it with another photo first so it’s not just a grotesque picture in the thumbnail.

Sun 20 Oct

Emily and I counted all 51x sheep. Emily moved #0163 out from the middle section of the two enclosures.

Lots more messy back ends this week - maybe 15x now, some looking very messy.

One roe deer seemed injured, with a large open sore in the centre of its back. A deer carcass is in the sheep field near the centre fence.

Troughs fine. Fences fine.

Saturday 19th October 2024

51 lambs counted, looking a little bedraggled after last night’s rain, especially the smaller lamb that is looking particularly grubby. A few messy behinds still, but no flies seen. Three trotted over when they saw the bucket and were joined by another two. Running very low on sheep nuts. Water trough ok. Two row deer spotted. Padlock still set to entry code (0212) when I arrived

Fri 18th October

Delayed report (sorry forgot to post). All sheep appeared to be ok on a sunny day. The wired has come away again on the gate so there is a chance that the sheep can get into the middle section again.

Wednesday 16th October

51 spread across the field in groups. Once they saw me with the bucket, they all came running over.

Several very dirty backsides but all seemed well.

Fence fine. Trough fine.

No concerns.

Friday 11th October

All accounted for spread across the railway side of the field. Some beautiful deer there today as well. They are getting a little bit tamer but it seems to be very slow progress this year!

I am getting them to approach the bucket now though so progress there.

More and more dirty behinds, but no other issues seen.

Monday 7th October

Late again with my post but check performed and all seemed fine. Sheep are getting braver, little one still on his own quite a lot. Made me sad, he's really really tiny compared to the rest.

There's also one sheep whose horns look like they're curling around quite close to the side of the head, but I didn't manage to get a photo becuase he ran away from me. I will try again next week.

Loads of food left, fences fine, trough fine.

Wednesday 9th October

51 counted, spread over the top of the field. The small lamb was on its own but seemed ok.

They are much more responsive to the bucket now with most coming over to me. All moving well, no problems seen.

Sun 06 Oct

Emily and I counted all 51x sheep. Still around 6x with messy back ends.

Nicely spread out and all grazing and moving. Trough fine, fence fine. No concerns.

Saturday 5th October 2024

Checked lambs this afternoon, all 51 accounted for and all in the right field. Saw a couple of messy behinds, but no flies. Water trough ok. Lambs were reluctant to come over, but eventually 2 came over and took advantage of the sheep nuts. Lambs were spread out in 2 groups, no stragglers. Two roe deer spotted. The padlock on the top gate was set to the entry number when I arrived.

Friday 4th October

All 51 accounted for on a beautiful sunny day. No food for me to shake the bucket and they're still quite shy, especially compared to last year's flock.

One of them had gotten in between the two fields behind the fence, near the water trough so I shepherded her back up to the main gate and she jumped through the fence at the top to get back into the main field. The barbed wire that prevents them getting through the gap had been displaced so I've hooked it back into place and hopefully they won't move it again.

Also found, what I think may be the bones of a deer near the water trough.

Monday 30th September

All 51 sheep in two large groups. Cobnuts box empty. Two deers in the field.

Wednesday 2nd October Staff Check

All 51 lambs counted for.
At least 7 sheep with very mucky bums, grazing team notified.
Sheep nuts bucket filled up.
Trough and fence fine.

Footpaths starting to get muddier, particularly around the kissing gates. Overhanging vegetation not too bad.
