Thursday 30th all sheep off site

We have taken all the sheep off site and away to some new grazing. Thank you for all the checking since they have been on it is very much appreciated.

A new load of cattle will be heading to site next week aiming for Wednesday so please stay tuned for updates.

Thanks

Sun 26 Jan

All 51x sheep counted. All seem fine and enjoying the grazing around the edges of their new lake.

Sadly, I think the final roe deer is lying dead in the field with the sheep. It's been pulled about by foxes or badgers, but there's no obvious injuries. I wonder whether the high roe mortality rate could be linked to the high levels of parasites that were found in the sheep?

Monday 27th

Terrible weather conditions for the poor sheep right now, constant rain and flooding in the field, the worst I've seen it in the 4 years I've lived here. Despite this I didn't see any issues at all with the sheep.

Friday 24th Jan

All 51 sheep eventually counted, and no obvious limpers. Trough working fine.

Sheep nuts topped in corral.

Friday 17th

51 sheep, water trough was fine. I started heading towards the cobnuts but the sheep lost interest and stopped following me so I gave up. I haven’t actually checked if they’ve been refilled since they ran out a couple of weeks ago because this and last week I cut it too close to sunset and ran out of time before getting to them

Nice lady walking around the field politely interrogated me about what I was doing in the field and was really excited about the idea of government sheep. She may get in touch to volunteer, but probably won’t.

Monday 20th January

Sheep all appeared to be fine at the northern end of the field. They do come for the bucket but I feel guilty the rewards are so low! Didn't see any issues.

Wednesday 15th January

51 counted, all laying down across the dip in the field. They all followed me across to the far gate to find some sheep nuts but were very disappointed. Please could we have a top up.

Sheep looking good, one with a slight limp but managing well.

Sun 12 Jan

All 51x counted. Well spread out, but all grazing and all seem fine. I pulled a 2" layer of ice from the trough, but the supply pipe wasn't frozen and it refilled ok - although the first water from the tap came out pretty filthy.

They all seem calm and content.

Saturday 11th January 2025

I am laid up with influenza so not able to go to check on the lambs. I asked a friend to check on them on their daily walk and they took their binoculars and checked on them from the path. 51 were counted and he didn’t notice any problems.

Wednesday 8th January

31 sheep grazing near the Worthy rd entrance. Eventually found the rest right at the top of the field.

All look well with no limpers.

Monday 7th Jan

Have to say, felt a bit sorry for the sheep this morning after a cold night with some snow settling followed by cold drizzle rest of Monday. I couldn't see any issues although the runt is really dirty, but doesn't seem to have any issues other than that.

Friday 3rd Jan

Happy new year! It took quite a few attempts, but I counted 51 happy sheep, seemingly unaware how cold it is. They come running when they see me and it’s the highlight of the week. Quite a few are a little extra muddy, especially on their faces. Completely out of cobnuts now. Scraggly one extra scraggly, but still there.

Could the patch of mud by the kissing gate have some mulch or gravel or bark chips put down?

It’s quite deep and very slippery, and today was frozen over, but not thick enough to stop your foot going straight through into ice cold, muddy slosh, and there’s no way around it and nothing to cling to for balance, unless you hang on to the barbed wire.

Wednesday 1st January 2025

Very windy today. All sheep ok except for one that had managed to get itself well and truly tangled up in some brambles. Contacted on call and they came and freed it.

sheep in bramble update

This Wedneaday Kate called in a sheep stuck in the bramble. The bramble had twisted alot into the fleece but I cut out all of it.
The sheep, tag 246 has about a hand size of bare skin now on it's right flank, but no open wounds and came away walking and feeding ok.
I trimmed away the bramble in the area
