I am laid up with influenza so not able to go to check on the lambs. I asked a friend to check on them on their daily walk and they took their binoculars and checked on them from the path. 51 were counted and he didn’t notice any problems.

This is a blog for Barton Meadows. The purpose of this blog is for staff and lookers to post a record of their livestock checks. The blog acts as a formal record of livestock wellbeing and welfare checks by providing access to up-to-date information on livestock and site status, and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust

Posting for Hadrian.
Sheep all okay and accounted for, trough a little frozen and cleared.
31 sheep grazing near the Worthy rd entrance. Eventually found the rest right at the top of the field.
All look well with no limpers.
Have to say, felt a bit sorry for the sheep this morning after a cold night with some snow settling followed by cold drizzle rest of Monday. I couldn't see any issues although the runt is really dirty, but doesn't seem to have any issues other than that.
Happy new year! It took quite a few attempts, but I counted 51 happy sheep, seemingly unaware how cold it is. They come running when they see me and it’s the highlight of the week. Quite a few are a little extra muddy, especially on their faces. Completely out of cobnuts now. Scraggly one extra scraggly, but still there.
Could the patch of mud by the kissing gate have some mulch or gravel or bark chips put down?
It’s quite deep and very slippery, and today was frozen over, but not thick enough to stop your foot going straight through into ice cold, muddy slosh, and there’s no way around it and nothing to cling to for balance, unless you hang on to the barbed wire.
Very windy today. All sheep ok except for one that had managed to get itself well and truly tangled up in some brambles. Contacted on call and they came and freed it.
