Monday 16th Feb

The original 3 were seperate from the rest in the early morning but when I had a walk into the field to check, at lunchtime, they were all together and seem to have settled in well. Persistent mooing from one of them has stopped.

I did notice one was scratching themself on the back of another, mentioned to my brother (Farmer) and he said we should ideally have some trees around the field for them to scratch themselves on, I wondered if this has been considered at all?

  1. I'm glad they have utilised each other for their scratching purposes! They can also use some fence posts, corrals and telegraph poles on site. Trees or scrub is not desirable on site due to Skylarks nesting, who like a nice clear open field, safe from predators. The smaller field which is not being hay cut may develop some level of scrub over the years and that might be left initially to understand whether there is diversity benefit and cattle wellbeing. But for now we do not intend to plant within the field.
