On a visit today. Gates all secure. Very quiet. Picked up some litter by the benches. Both fields are a sea of wild carrot flowers with a gathering of meadow brown butterflies.
The brambles are beginning to encroach in places on the path alongside the railway line - will take some secateurs next month.
All 6 cows laying down in the sunshine close to the near fence, looking very contented.
Saw one sainfoin flowering!
6 cows quietly grazing on middle of western meadow and 3 roe deer in eastern meadow.
First sighting of dog roses in flower near western entrance gate. Scattering of oxe eye daisies in flower in both meadows. Several butterflies on the wing especially brimstones. Nice to see a couple of goldfinches in the bushes below the railway line.
Sadly yet again had to retrieve a filled dog bag from the cows field.
6 cows quietly chewing cud at northerncebd. Water trough okay.
Good scattering of buttercups and cats ear/hawkweed (?) amongst the renaining cowslips. Spotted a few clumps of birds foot trefoil along the northern end of eastern meadow, and a young deer laying down on its own. No sign of the other two deer.
Checked the cows in the early evening, all 6 were progressing their way up the left hand side of the small field alongside the railway track. Some welcome rain after a long dry spell. Only one deer spotted, I regularly used to see 5-6 in this field.
All 6 resting calmly at the southern end of the small meadow. One stood up as if to keep an eye on me when I entered the meadow to check the trough. I walked up the big meadow to check the gate had been closed behind the cows. It had lots of jackdaws bathing in the trough of the big meadow. Also lots of tiny brown/grey/orange butterflies. I’ll look them up later!
6 cows on the northern end of the field around the connecting gate. Trough working fine. Sun shining, birds singing, couldn’t be more idyllic.

Strong cold wind and overcast morning - no butterfles seen. Pleased to see two small clumps of white helleborine in flower on nothern boundary path at w3w searched.hunk.haven
On a stunning day all 6 cows were observed right at the far northern end of the larger field, grazing away. Skylarks singing from 5am along with Goldfinch, Wrens, Blue Tits and Robins. Still waiting for the first swifts, housemartins and swallows to appear.
All 6 in the big meadow lying down with heads up. One looking straight back at me as I looked through binoculars. Trough filling well. Did a bit of litter picking.
6 cows in the middle of the large field, laying down or grazing. Water trough full.
Saw a tiny baby fawn who walked into the middle hedge, lots of skylarks.
Sunny but cold strong wind.
6 cows all calmly grazing in the dip of eastern meadow with the 3 roe deer for company. Water trough okay.
Cow parsley, white dead nettle and wild strawberry along the field boundaries with a good scattering of cowslips especially at the northern end where I was serenaded by blackcaps as well as the skylarks.
Picked up a couple of dog poo bags with contents one of which was in the field.
I was asked by one dog walker what had happened to the cows - again Sam an update notice for the general public could perhaps be helpful.
All present and correct. They are at the northern end of the big meadow eating before having a lie down. Trough is full. Skylarks in song. Lovely to see the cowslips.
I went to the fields today but unfortunately I was with my dad in the wheelchair and the cows weren't visible from the tarmac path. I couldn't see them - my husband went round the corner to the big field and couldn't see them in the dip either, so we think they were up at the northern end, over the hill out of sight.
I will try to pop out to check on them tomorrow. So sorry for the failure, I didn't have cover to leave dad home alone, so I did my best!
